Dear Grace,
Your welcome letter received. Our mail seems to be dropping off recently- and many a day we go to an empty box. I must say that the actions of the supposed stronger nations recently have been ridiculous. XXXXXXXXXX XXX Brussels Conference has quit and admits failure—I think China ’s only hope now is if she can get Russia to start something against Japan . And that is unlikely.
It is too bad the nurses are inclined to be antagonistic. I would advise that you keep them well posted as to their place, so far as you are concerned.
We are getting our coldest of the season just now last night ( Sunday) went down to 22 degrees and tonight I expect will match it. It likewise has been very wet, and they promise us more when the cold quits.
I had plenty of wood cut for winter early in October, and Woolsey had promised to haul and saw it. But so far it is all in the Woods. So wet, he got all behind with his planting (wheat) and one of his horses got lame, and is inclined to lay down when worked. However he has brought a little over for us. And will no doubt get it hauled shortly. He has not got any up for himself yet. They are going up to Baltimore Thursday and will probably stop over the weekend. Ruth said they would like to see you, but it would not be advisable for them to stop as things are at the Palmers. It certainly is a sad situation. I hope you don’t let it worry you too much.
It will not be much like Thanksgiving to you I am afraid—Shall get Mom to make a fruit cake which will be about the extent of ours. Neither of us seem to have much appetite for meat of any kind.
I still hope we will be able to make a trip to Florida when you are through. It would seem my only chance now—
Dot in her last letter said Shoe had heard from Dick again and he wrote like he would like to come back home—There was letter from Lucy last week she is still with Bert at the same address did not say what she was doing or whether she was working. Did not speak of going to Florida this winter (address 4326 South Greenwood Avenue )
While the magazines ought to come as you paid for them, don’t worry about them we get plenty to read.
I am feeling well, but can’t stand any exertion in the cold. Mom seems well, at times complains of pain in the back. I will keep her from working too hard if possible. This is all the paper so must quit now
Love from Dad
