Happy New Year

OK. I couldnt resist joining the ranks of the bloggers. Happy New Year, everyone... to all my dear friends, near and far-flung (and far-fetched), family and anyone else who stumbles on my silly blogspot!

I will try and put some pictures up, and keep a sort of log of our doins' here at the humble 3/4 of an acre we call Homestead Hermitage & Gardens. David and I love to putter around in the gardens and the yard, and I will be keeping my gardening records here.. He is also in the process of getting his woodshop up and running.

The latest addition to the family (HA HA ) Is Oscar. Oscar is a portable sawmill, and he sits in the backyard. David has cut some pine, some cedar and some popcorn boards already. The next project will be his wood drying shed, an extension on the storage shed to cover Oscar and shelter him from sun and rain while he plays with the wood. He hopes to have a greenhouse built soon so that I can start my herbs, flowers and veggies for the spring planting season!

Last year, without a greenhouse, I overwhelmed myself with seedlings, of herbs mostly. I grew purple and green basils, oregano, marjoram, dill, parsley, sage and LOTS of lemon balm. I planted out the lemon balm in the flower bed surrounding the satellite dish, and around the birdfeeder in the front yard. This year I have taken cuttings from my coleus and impatiens, and will have a head start on planting.

I know I am rambling, but just trying to see how this all works. So... will publish this and then add to it as the rambles come to me!
